Wheelchair access available on Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays from the start of Patrols in September until completion in May each year from 9am – 4pm
Burleigh Heads has kilometres of beaches and foreshore areas which are greatly valued by our Club who in conjunction with our Council is committed to provide access and enjoyment to the public. Our Club would like to ensure that key foreshore locations, such as the beaches, are accessible for all to enjoy.
While disability can impact individuals in many different forms, some of the largest impacts on people with a disability are physical barriers within the built and natural environment, restricting their ability to conduct their lives in a spontaneous and unplanned manner. It is understood that if a community is physically accessible for people with a disability there is increased access for all community members such as older people, children and pram users.
These accessible features will be available subject to weather conditions, availability and bookings.
Accessible Beach Matting & Wheelchairs
The provision of rubber matting across the soft sand to the hard sand aids in providing a firm supportive base for wheelchairs, prams, walking and mobility aids.
Where: Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park SLSC cnr Goodwin Terrace & Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads.
The access point is in front of the Surf Life Saving Club’s clubhouse. Depending on the tide, the matting may not always reach the water, however it will reach the hard sand.
When: available Saturday, Sunday & Public Holidays during the Surf Life Saving patrol season the hours are (9am to 4pm) from September to May each year.
Who: anyone is able to use the matting, however it is particularly helpful with people in wheelchairs, prams, walking and mobility aids to pass over the soft sand and get to the hard sand.
